Now in its twelfth year, the annual event that is held on the first Saturday of May, is a collaboration between comic book publishers, retailers and distributors. It was established to introduce the joy of comic books to young readers and to get them to visit their neighborhood comic book store. Since 2002, vendors have given away over 12 million special edition comic books, and the numbers are only growing.
