The youngest female DJ in the world: DJ Beauty and the Beatz performing at the 2014 Book Bag Buffet Drive

www.djbeautyandthebeatz.com/

Born in Las Vegas, NV, DJ Beauty and the Beatz was exposed to music by her father long before she could even crawl. Riding in the car with him running errands, she realized her own love for beats and lyrics. By six years of age, she began recognizing samples used by different artists and shouting “air” suggestions to the radio DJ to play certain songs together based on their similarities. It was at this point that her mother introduced her to the idea of becoming a DJ herself.

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory congratulated "By R.E.A.L. Kids" on their efforts

Happy Anniversary to By R.E.A.L. Kids. For over a year we have been working hard to create a program for the children of our community. By R.E.A.L. Kids started as a dream of a 10 year old named Heven Rooks, and is starting to take shape as the program of the future, one that would definitely make an impact on the lives of our children.

Therefore, we where over the moon with excitement when we received a letter from North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory congratulating us on our efforts. Our main mission is to help children become (R.E.A.L.) Responsible, Enterprising, and Active for Life.

Maya Angelou, Dies at 86

Poet and essayist Maya Angelou died Wednesday at the age of 86, her publisher, Random House, has confirmed.

Maya Angelou instills confidence in children with her beautiful words, and the illustrations from Basquiat teaches art appreciation at a young age.

Forbes give your the most Important Money Lessons To Teach Your Kids

Given how important financial skills are to navigating life, it's surprising that our schools don't teach children about money.
As a parent, however, you can teach your child important financial lessons - and you should.
Kobliner says children as young as three years old can grasp financial concepts like saving and spending. Other reports revealed that kids' money habits are formed by age 7.
"The sooner parents start taking advantage of everyday teachable money moments (for example, give a six-year-old $2 and let her choose which fruit to buy), the better off our kids will be. Parents are the number one influence on their children's financial behaviors, so it's up to us to raise a generation of mindful consumers, investors, savers, and givers," she says

40th anniversary of Rubik's Cube invention

In 1974, while a young professor of architecture in Budapest, Hungary, Erno Rubik created an innovative solid cube that twisted and turned but did not break or fall apart.
The first model was used to help him explain spatial relationships to his students. With colourful stickers on its sides, the cube got scrambled and thus emerged as the first 'Rubik's Cube.'

Tips to get your kids through the end of the school year

It’s almost the end of the year and the kids are getting restless. Here are tips to keep them (and you) happy through the home stretch
As the days get longer and the weather warmer, the last place your child wants to be is in the classroom. “Attention seems to drop as the thermometer rises,” says Kimberley Smith, a primary teacher in Dartmouth, NS, and mother of three. “The end of the school year is a tough time for everyone.”

May 3, 2014 Free Comic Book Day

Love free things? Then you are in luck. That's because Saturday, May 3rd, happens to be Free Comic Book Day. This means that you can walk into any participating store and get yourself one (or multiple) copies of your favorite comic book. The best part is that this special day is celebrated by comic book retailers all over the world.
Now in its twelfth year, the annual event that is held on the first Saturday of May, is a collaboration between comic book publishers, retailers and distributors. It was established to introduce the joy of comic books to young readers and to get them to visit their neighborhood comic book store. Since 2002, vendors have given away over 12 million special edition comic books, and the numbers are only growing.

Watch Will Ferrell, Michelle Obama lead kids’ ‘focus group’

In a scene reminiscent of those ubiquitous AT&T commercials in which a gaggle of precocious kids acts as a “focus group,” first lady Michelle Obama released a video on Monday of herself and comedian Will Ferrell quizzing a group of adorable tots about veggies and healthy lifestyles as part of the week-long celebration of the four-year anniversary of the “Let’s Move” campaign.

Ferrell appears confused about what might constitute a nutritious diet. “No entire honeybaked hams?” he asks incredulously.
